About that pilaf loaded with garlic and smothered in chutney...

Naziha (from left), Frishta and Hakim, first-year students from Afghanistan, wanted to get a picture of themselves with their professor wearing his gown and silly hat at the 10th annual Initiation Day festivities last month. Their teacher, or "Sir" as they prefer, was only happy to comply. It is currently Diversity Week on campus, during which features the traditional foods, clothing, music and dances of the Central Asia cultures. This same trio, along with their two roommates, had me over to their flat Sunday for a sumptuous lunch of traditional Afghan dishes, a cuisine which is generally much spicier and more to my liking than the other Central Asia foods.
