Austrian saxophonist Wolfgang Schiftner and his trio, Kelomat, which includes Bernd Satzinger on bass and Herbert Pirker on drums, rose the roof of the Bishkek Opera House Wednesday evening. Schiftner’s incorporation of circular breathing into his playing technique left many of the audience breathless. Opening the show was Salt Peanuts, a nine-man Kyrgyz ensemble and the busiest and hottest jazz band in Bishkek.
