Overlooking the Kara-Darya

A view through the dusty air from the town of Ozgon on the banks of the Kara-Darya River in southwestern Kyrgyzstan. Ozgon is mentioned in the Chinese chronicles from the second century B.C., and is perhaps (and unfortunately) best known in recent decades as the site of vicious fighting between ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz in the summer of 1990.
