There is no joy in Mudville as we expatriates approach the opening weekend of the U.S. college football season with the prospect of being unable to enjoy a single game. No Red River Shootout, no USC vs. Notre Dame, no Army vs. Navy, no good. O Lord, what have your humble—and, yes, wretched--servants done to deserve such a cruel fate? Our only televised games came via ESPN, which has been removed from the cable TV schedule. No joy, only grown men wringing their hands in desperation trying to imagine a Saturday afternoon in the fall without college gridiron action. I tell you, brothers and sisters, it ain’t a pretty sight.
