The palette of protest

Blue belongs to the Ar-Namyz party and red to Ata-Meken, also a party. The Green Party has its own color, yellow is associated with the Union of Democratic Forces and university students from Bishkek identified themselves with orange at the anti-government demonstrations earlier this month. Groups of different color guards even attempted some choreograph activities, which were, well, colorful. AUCA was closed 7-11 April and students from the state-run universities said their schools were under orders from the Ministry of Education to avoid taking any part in the demonstrations, though one state university administrator told me no such directive was given.
