Turkmen cheerleaders

Diversity week wrapped up last week with singing, dancing and other performances. This foursome from Turkmenistan includes a freshman student of mine, Yiera (second from left), who was in the States for a year as part of a student exchange program and visited the Four Corners. I especially enjoyed a performance by two guitarists who treated Kygyz folk songs with expansive sensibilities that reminded me of Bill Frisell.
